Department of History, Faculty of Social Sciences and Languages organized an Expert Lecture by Dr. Ram Singh Gurna to commemorate Martyrdom Day of Shaheed Bhagat Singh on 26th March, 2024.  Every year, 23 March is observed as “Shaheed Diwas” with great passion and unity across India. The day is commemorated in the remembrance of the three revolutionaries of India who were hanged to death by the British namely Bhagat Singh, Shivaram Rajguru and Sukhdev Thapar. This day is widely celebrated across India to honour these men who lost their lives serving mother India. Faculty of Social Sciences and Languages of Desh Bhagat University Mandi Gobindgarh observed this day through expert lecture which highlighted Shaheed Bhagat Singh’s life and sacrifices during the freedom struggle of the nation. The Director Dr. Devinder Kumar, the expert speaker of the day Dr Ram Singh Gurna, faculty members and students were present on the occasion.

             Dr. Ram Singh Gurna, Professor of History in his lecture appreciated the student participants and motivated them. He elaborated in detail the life and sacrifices of this great patriot of the nation. He discussed that Bhagat Singh’s death brought high patriotic emotions throughout the country. At a very young age, Bhagat Singh was involved in many revolutionary activities. His principals are an example for all the generations.

            The Director Dr. Devinder Kumar while addressing the gathering highlighted the contribution rendered by Shaheed-E-Azam in the freedom struggle of the nation. He apprised how Bhaagt Singh was indeed a true patriot who not only fought for the freedom of the country but also he had no qualms giving away his life in the freedom struggle of our nation.

He also appreciated the efforts of faculty members and students in organizing the event.
