The Faculty of Social Sciences and Languages, Desh Bhagat University, Mandi Gobindgarh, hosted an enlightening workshop on April 19, 2024, delving into the rich cultural heritage of the Sapta Sindhu civilization. This workshop served as a platform to explore the ancient roots of our civilization, tracing back to the Indus Valley, and understanding its profound significance in the contemporary world.

The workshop commenced with a warm welcome address by Dr. Devinnder Kumar, Director of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Languages. Dr. Kumar extended a heartfelt welcome to the esteemed chief guest, Dr. Zora Singh, Chancellor of Desh Bhagat University, emphasizing the rich cultural heritage of Sapta Sindhu and its significance in shaping our collective identity.

Dr. Varinder Garg, MD (Radiology) and OSD to President PGIMER, Chandigarh, graced the occasion as a distinguished resource person. His address shed light on the mysteries of Sapta Sindhu, offering insights into our forgotten past manipulated by colonial administrators that inform our present and shape our future. The Sapt Sindhu region, known as the cradle of civilization, holds within its embrace the secrets of millennia gone by. It is a testament to the resilience of our people that despite the ravages of time and the vicissitudes of history, the spirit of Sapt Sindhu continues to endure. The very soil upon which we stand today has borne witness to the birth of civilization, the evolution of languages, and the emergence of profound philosophical insights. Dr. Garg’s expertise enriched the discussions, encouraging participants to embark on a journey of discovery and enlightenment.

The Chief Guest Dr. Zora Singh, Honourable Chancellor, Desh Bhagat University in his address highlighted the importance of holding such a workshop. He urged the audience that as custodians of knowledge and stewards of our cultural heritage, it is our responsibility to delve into the annals of history and unearth the stories of our ancestors. Dr. Virinder Singh, Advisor at Desh Bhagat University, also shared his message on the importance of Sapta Sindhu civilization. His insights underscored the need to celebrate and preserve our cultural heritage, fostering a deeper understanding of our roots and traditions.

Dr. Dharminder Singh, while proposing vote of thanks, extend his gratitude to the resource person and all the dignitaries and attendees. He added that through the exploration of Sapta Sindhu civilization, everyone gained a deeper appreciation of our cultural legacy and its enduring relevance in today’s world. This workshop will prove to be a significant step in promoting cultural awareness and historical understanding, reinforcing the university’s commitment to academic excellence and cultural preservation and encourage the participants to embrace the essence of the rich tapestry of the Sapta Sindhu civilization. On this occasion a book Folklore and Folkloristics authored by Dr. Dharminder Singh was released by the dignitaries.
