Desh Bhagat University (DBU) in Mandi Gobindgarh, Punjab, is distinguished as the first private university in the state to establish Air Wing , Army Wing and Navy Wing Squadron of the National Cadet Corps (NCC). Desh Bhagat University The NCC at DBU offers students comprehensive training aimed at developing character, discipline, leadership, and a spirit of adventure, thereby preparing them for potential careers in the Armed Forces.
DBU’s NCC Program:
- Comprehensive Training: Cadets receive instruction in drill practices, physical fitness routines, weapon handling, and adventure activities such as trekking and camping.
- Community Engagement: The NCC unit actively participates in social service initiatives, including cleanliness drives and visits to old age homes, fostering a sense of social responsibility among cadets.
- Specialized Camps: DBU hosts and participates in various NCC camps, providing cadets with opportunities to engage in intensive training and leadership development.
AIM OF NCC:
The ‘Aims’ of the NCC laid out in 1988 have stood the test of time and continue to meet the requirements expected of it in the current socio–economic scenario of the country. The NCC aims at developing character, comradeship, discipline, a secular outlook, the spirit of adventure
and ideals of selfless service amongst young citizens. Further, it aims at creating a pool of organized, trained and motivated youth with leadership qualities in all walks of life, who will serve the Nation regardless of which career they choose. Needless to say, the NCC also provides an environment conducive to motivating young Indians to join the armed forces.
1. To Create a Human Resource of Organized, Trained and Motivated Youth, To Provide Leadership in all Walks of life and be Always Available for the Service of the Nation.
2. To Provide a Suitable Environment to Motivate the Youth to Take Up a Career in the Armed Forces.
3. To Develop Character, Comradeship, Discipline, Leadership, Secular Outlook, Spirit of Adventure, and Ideals of Selfless Service amongst the Youth of the Country.
MOTTO of NCC:
The need for having motto for the Corps was discussed in the 11th Central Advisory Committee (CAC) meeting held on 11 Aug 1978. The mottos suggested were “Duty and Discipline”; “Duty, Unity and Discipline”; “Duty and Unity”; “Unity and Discipline”. The final decision for selection of “Unity and Discipline” as motto for the NCC was taken in the 12th CAC meeting held on 12 Oct 1980.
DBU NCC Wings:
1. Army Wing : Affiliated from 14PB BNNCC, Nabha (W.e.f August, 2023 )
The National Cadet Corps (NCC) Army Wing in India is a premier youth organization aimed at developing discipline, leadership, and patriotism among students. It operates under the Ministry of Defence and offers structured training programs for University Students.
Organizational Structure:
The NCC is organized into 17 Directorates across India, each overseeing multiple units. Specifically, the Army Wing comprises approximately 700 units, including various regiments and battalions such as Armoured Squadrons, Artillery Batteries, Engineer Regiments, Signal Companies, Medical Battalions, and Infantry Battalions.
Training Divisions:
Senior Division (SD): For college students up to 26 years of age.
Training Programs:
Cadets undergo a comprehensive training regimen that includes:
Drill and Parade: To instill discipline and coordination.
Weapon Training: Familiarization with firearms and their safe handling.
Physical Fitness: Activities to promote health and endurance.
Adventure Training: Including trekking, mountaineering, and camping to foster a spiritof adventure.
Community Development: Participation in social service activities to encourage civic responsibility.
Certification:
Cadets can earn the following certificates:
‘A’ Certificate: For Junior Division cadets after two years of training.
‘B’ Certificate: For Senior Division cadets after the second year of training, provided they have attended the requisite number of training periods and camps.
‘C’ Certificate: For Senior Division cadets in their third year, who have previously obtained the ‘B’ Certificate and fulfilled other training requirements.

Career Opportunities: Holders of ‘B’ and ‘C’ certificates may receive preference in recruitment for the armed forces and certain government services.

2. Air Wing: Affiliated from 3PB AIR SQN NCC , Patiala (W.e.f August, 2021 )
The National Cadet Corps (NCC) Air Wing is a youth development organization in India that aims to instill discipline, leadership, and a sense of adventure among students. It recruits cadets from universities across the country.
Eligibility and Enrollment:
Senior Division (SD): For students up to 26 years of age.
Enrollment is voluntary and typically conducted through educational institutions that have an NCC unit. Interested students should contact their institution’s NCC officer or the nearest NCC unit for application procedures.
Training and Activities:
The NCC Air Wing offers a variety of training programs and activities, including:
