Lohri & Makar Sankranti celebrated with Great Zeal & Zest at Desh Bhagat University

Desh Bhagat University celebrated the festivals of Lohri and Makar Sankranti with a lot of enthusiasm and fervour on. January 13, 2023. In India, celebrations are not just rituals to be carried out; they are also expressly linked to our tradition of uniting in celebration. The festival of Lohri, which marks the end of winter, is celebrate across most northern parts of India especially in Punjab. Makar Sankranti is an important Hindu religious festival that we celebrate with great joy and happiness. This festive mood on the campus was upbeat, and the spirit of the students was high when they tapped their happy feet on the beats of “Giddha-Bhangra” and sang traditional Lohri songs like. “Sunder Mundriye.”

The occasion was grace by Dr. Zora Singh. Chancellor of Desh Bhagat University, Dr. Tajinder Kaur, Pro-Chancellor of Desh Bhagat University. Dr. Virinder Singh, vice chancellor, Dr. Harsh Sadawarti,vice President and Former Vice Chancellor of DBU Dr. Shalini Gupta.

Dr. Zora Singh, the honourable Chancellor of Desh Bhagat University blessed everyone on the occasion and sent his congratulations to all the faculty and students. In his speech, he mentioned Kudiyan di Lohri’s message. He also stressed saving the girl child and setting aside gender differences. He also explained the meaning of the word Makar Sankranti, saying that it derives from two words, Makar and Sankranti. Makar means Capricorn, and Sankranti means transition, so Makar Sankranti refers to the sun’s transition in Capricorn (a zodiac sign).

Dr. Tajinder Kaur, honourable pro-chancellor of Desh Bhagat University, deliberated on the importance of Lohri and advised the students to enjoy the warmth of this holy fire and burn all their fears. Dr. Virinder Singh, the honourable vice chancellor of Desh Bhagat University, also blessed the students.
