The Placebo club in collaboration with IQAC and IIC, Faculty of Pharmacy, Desh bhagat University, organized an Online Expert Talk on 18th November 2025 as part of World Antibiotic Awareness Week 2025. The session aimed to educate students and faculty about the growing threat of antimicrobial resistance and the importance of responsible antibiotic usage.
Event Proceedings
The event was efficiently coordinated by Ms. Achla Sharma, ensuring seamless organization and smooth execution of the online session.
The program commenced with a warm welcome by Dr. Puja Gulati, Director who emphasized the relevance of World Antibiotic Awareness Week and motivated students to actively participate in global health initiatives.

The keynote address was delivered by Dr. Nirmal Singh, M.Pharm, Ph.D. (Pharmacology), Professor & Former Head, Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Drug Research, Punjabi University, Patiala. With over 26 years of rich academic and research experience, Dr. Singh is a renowned expert in pharmacology.
His talk centered on the World Antibiotic Awareness Week theme, “Act Now: Protect Our Present, Secure Our Future.” Dr. Singh provided deep insights into, the current scenario of antimicrobial resistance, Causes and consequences of irrational antibiotic use, Mechanisms of AMR, Global efforts and stewardship strategies, the role of pharmacy professionals in preventing AMR. A vibrant Q&A session followed, where students interacted actively and clarified doubts regarding AMR, stewardship, and emerging therapeutic challenges.

- Students learned the importance of rational prescribing and dispensing of antibiotics.

The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from B. Pharmacy and PharmD students, faculty members, and healthcare professionals. The program concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks to Dr. Nirmal Singh, the Director, event coordinator, and all participants for their support and cooperation.
