Aim or Objectives
Aim: To conduct the 6th National Pharmacovigilance Week 2026 at the School of Pharmacy, Desh Bhagat University, in collaboration with PGIMER, Chandigarh, IQAC, and IIC, to promote awareness about pharmacovigilance, and their role in ensuring patient safety.
Objectives:
- To create awareness among students and faculty members about the importance of pharmacovigilance.
- To enhance understanding of the identification, reporting, monitoring, and prevention of adverse drug reactions (ADRs) and medical device-related adverse events.
- To provide students with opportunities to enhance their knowledge, creativity, communication, and scientific presentation skills.
- To provide exposure to expert knowledge through the Online Expert Talk on the role of pharmacovigilance .
- To promote a culture of safe and responsible use of medicines and medical devices.
17th September 2026: Quiz Competition
A Quiz Competition on Pharmacovigilance was organized on 17th September 2026 by the Placebo Club, School of Pharmacy, Desh Bhagat University, in collaboration with PGIMER, Chandigarh, IQAC, and IIC. The quiz focused on important aspects of pharmacovigilance, adverse drug reactions (ADRs), drug safety, ADR reporting, and patient safety. Students actively participated in the competition and demonstrated their knowledge and understanding of pharmacovigilance and drug safety concepts. The activity provided an interactive platform for students to enhance their awareness and knowledge while promoting active learning, healthy competition, and a culture of patient safety. The winning team consisted of the following students from Pharm.D 2nd Year: Hargun, Harmanpreet , Pranaw. The winners were appreciated for their excellent performance and knowledge of pharmacovigilance. The competition concluded on a positive note, encouraging students to further develop their understanding of drug safety and adverse drug reaction reporting.
18th September 2026: Essay Writing Competition
On the second day of Pharmacovigilance Week, an Essay Writing Competition on Pharmacovigilance was organized.Pharm.D students actively participated in the competition and expressed their ideas on various aspects of pharmacovigilance, adverse drug reactions (ADRs), drug safety, ADR reporting, medication safety, and patient care. The activity provided students with an opportunity to demonstrate their subject knowledge, analytical thinking, and writing skills.The competition also encouraged students to understand the importance of timely ADR reporting and the role of healthcare professionals in promoting medication safety and protecting patient well-being. The enthusiastic participation of the students made the activity informative, engaging, and academically enriching. The first position in the Essay Writing Competition was secured by: Saqlain Mushtaq – Pharm.D 3rd Year. The winner was appreciated for his insightful ideas, effective presentation, and understanding of pharmacovigilance and its significance in ensuring patient safety.
21st September 2026: Skit
As part of Pharmacovigilance Week, a Skit Play on Pharmacovigilance and Patient Safety was organized. The students presented an engaging and informative skit highlighting the importance of adverse drug reaction (ADR) identification, timely ADR reporting, rational use of medicines, medication safety, and the role of healthcare professionals in protecting patients. Through realistic situations and effective dialogue, the students demonstrated how timely reporting of suspected ADRs can contribute to safer medication use and improved patient care. The activity successfully combined education with creativity and awareness, encouraging students and the audience to understand their responsibility in promoting a strong culture of pharmacovigilance and patient safety.
22nd September 2026: Expert Talk
An Expert Talk on “Role of Pharmacovigilance and Materiovigilance in Patient Safety” was successfully organized on 22nd September 2026 as part of the 6th National Pharmacovigilance Week. The session was delivered by Prof. (Dr.) Bikash Medhi, Department of Pharmacology and Coordinator, Pharmacovigilance and Materiovigilance Centre, PGIMER, Chandigarh.
Prof. (Dr.) Bikash Medhi provided valuable insights into the significance of pharmacovigilance and materiovigilance in promoting the safe and effective use of medicines and medical devices. The session highlighted the importance of systematic safety monitoring and timely reporting in identifying, assessing, and preventing adverse events associated with pharmaceutical products and medical devices. The expert talk covered important aspects including adverse drug reactions (ADRs), drug safety monitoring, adverse event reporting, medical device safety, and the role of healthcare professionals in strengthening patient safety practices. The interactive nature of the session encouraged active participation and helped students and faculty members develop a deeper understanding of the importance of responsible reporting and continuous safety surveillance.
The programme provided an enriching learning experience for the participants and offered an excellent opportunity to interact with an eminent expert in the field. The session further enhanced awareness regarding pharmacovigilance, materiovigilance, and their crucial role in safeguarding patient health and improving healthcare outcomes. The session concluded with a formal Vote of Thanks delivered by Dr. Puja Gulati, Director-cum-Principal, who expressed her sincere gratitude to Prof. (Dr.) Bikash Medhi for his valuable time, insightful presentation, and for sharing his expertise on the important aspects of pharmacovigilance and materiovigilance. She also appreciated the efforts of the organizing team, faculty members, and students for their active participation and support in making the expert talk a successful and enriching learning experience.
23rd September 2026: E-Poster Presentation
E-Poster Presentation Competition was organized to enhance student’s awareness and understanding of pharmacovigilance and its role in promoting the safe and rational use of medicines. The competition provided students with an opportunity to creatively present their knowledge on various aspects of pharmacovigilance, including adverse drug reaction (ADR) reporting, medication safety, and patient care. Students actively participated in the competition and demonstrated their creativity, subject knowledge, and presentation skills through informative and visually engaging e-posters. Maaz Reza, Pharm.D 3rd Year, secured 1st position in the E-Poster Presentation Competition. His achievement was appreciated, and he was congratulated for his excellent performance and active participation in the 6th National Pharmacovigilance Week 2026.

Conclusion
The 6th National Pharmacovigilance Week 2026 was successfully organized at the School of Pharmacy, Desh Bhagat University, through a series of educational and engaging activities, including a quiz, essay writing competition, skit, expert talk, and e-poster presentation. The programme successfully enhanced awareness and understanding of pharmacovigilance, materiovigilance, ADR reporting, and patient safety among students and faculty. The active participation of students and support of faculty members and collaborating institutions contributed to making the event informative, interactive, and academically enriching.
