The Faculty of Pharmacy on 14th August 2026 organised a programme for the 80th Independence Day Celebration and to commemorate the  “150 Years of Vande Mataram”. The programme was organized by Placebo Club, Faculty of Pharmacy, in collaboration with Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC), Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat Cell, Red Ribbon Club and Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC). The event was conducted at APJ Hall from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM.

The celebration was conducted under the themes “Honouring Freedom, Inspiring the Future” and “Vande Mataram Har Ghar Tiranga – One Nation, One Flag, One Spirit”. The programme aimed to honour the sacrifices of freedom fighters, promote patriotism, strengthen national unity, and encourage social responsibility among students through meaningful cultural, literary and creative activities.

Objectives of the Event

• To commemorate India’s Independence Day and celebrate the spirit of freedom and national pride.

• To honour the sacrifices and contributions of India’s freedom fighters.

• To promote patriotism, national unity and social responsibility among students.

• To provide students with opportunities for creative, literary and cultural expression.

• To encourage awareness of the “Har Ghar Tiranga” spirit and the significance of the national flag.

Inaugural Session

The program commenced with a formal inaugural session. The event was inaugurated by honourable Chancellor Dr. Zora Singh, respected Pro Chancellor Dr. Tajinder Kaur, Desh Bhagat University and Dr. Ravi Bedi, CEO of Ramraj Medical Centre, Nairobi.

The welcome address was delivered by Dr. Puja Gulati, Director, School of Pharmacy, who warmly welcomed the Chief Guest, honourable Dr. Zora Singh, respected Dr. Tajinder Kaur and Dr. Ravi Bedi. She emphasized the importance of remembering the sacrifices of the freedom fighters and nurturing patriotism, unity, discipline, and a sense of responsibility among the younger generation. She also highlighted the role of students in contributing positively towards the progress and development of the nation.

The celebration witnessed enthusiastic participation from students and faculty members through various patriotic activities and cultural presentations. The program created an atmosphere of national pride and unity, while providing an opportunity for everyone to reflect upon the values of freedom, sacrifice, and national service.

Participants

Students from B. Pharm 3^rd, 5^th Sem, 7^th Sem andPharm. D 2^nd year, 3^rd year, 4^th year actively participated in the event with great enthusiasm. Faculty members of the School of Pharmacy and S. Lal Singh Memorial college of Pharmacy and Mata Jarnail Kaur College of Pharmacy played a vital role in coordinating and ensuring the smooth conduct of all activities.

Activities Conducted

1. Patriotic Speech

Two patriotic speeches were delivered as part of the celebration of the 80th Independence Day and to commemorate the 150 Years of Vande Mataram. The speeches highlighted the sacrifices of India’s freedom fighters and the significance of Vande Mataram as a symbol of patriotism, unity, and national pride. Students participated enthusiastically, expressing their love and respect for the nation. The activity inspired students to uphold the values of freedom, responsibility, unity, and service towards the nation and encouraged them to contribute positively to the development of a strong and progressive India.

• Patriotic Essay Writing Competition

Students enthusiastically participated in Patriotic Essay Writing Competition and expressed their thoughts on patriotism, national unity, the sacrifices of freedom fighters, and the significance of Vande Mataram. The activity provided students with an opportunity to showcase their creativity, writing skills, and sense of responsibility towards the nation. It also encouraged them to reflect upon the values of freedom, unity, integrity, and their role in building a strong and progressive India.

• Patriotic Quiz Competition

A Patriotic Quiz Competition was also organized as part of the event. The competition tested students’ knowledge of India’s freedom struggle, national leaders, historical events, national symbols, and the significance of Vande Mataram. Students participated with great enthusiasm and competitive spirit. The activity enhanced their awareness of India’s rich history and heritage while fostering patriotism, national pride, unity, and respect for the sacrifices made by the freedom fighters.

• Patriotic Reel Making Competition

A Patriotic Reel Making Competition was also organized in which students participated enthusiastically by creating creative and engaging reels highlighting India’s rich heritage, freedom struggle, national unity, and spirit of patriotism.

• Departmental Decoration

The university campus was beautifully decorated with tricolour-themed decorations, patriotic posters, and creative displays to mark the celebration of the 80th Independence Day and 150 years of Vande Mataram. The decoration created a vibrant patriotic atmosphere and reflected the students’ creativity, enthusiasm, and spirit of nationalism.

Dignitaries’ Remarks

The Honourable honourable Chancellor sir, Dr. Zora Singh, respected Pro chancellor mam Dr. Tajinder Kaur and Dr. Ravi Bedi appreciated the sincere efforts and enthusiastic participation of the students, faculty members, and organizing team in making the 80th Independence Day and “150 Years of Vande Mataram” Celebration a grand success. He commended the patriotic spirit, creativity, and active involvement demonstrated by the participants and conveyed his best wishes for organizing more such meaningful activities in the future.

Outcomes of the Event

Students were provided a platform to express their patriotic thoughts and creativity.

1. The activities promoted awareness of India’s freedom struggle, national unity and civic responsibility.
2. The programme encouraged active participation in literary, quiz and creative activities.
3. The celebration strengthened the spirit of patriotism, unity and national pride among the participants.
4. The event supported the message of “One Nation, One Flag, One Spirit” and “Honouring Freedom, Inspiring the Future” and encouraged students to contribute positively to society.

Conclusion

The Independence Day and “150 Years of Vande Mataram” celebration provided an engaging platform for students and faculty members to commemorate the nation’s freedom and reflect on the values of unity, patriotism and social responsibility. The patriotic speech, essay writing, quiz and reel making activities contributed to meaningful participation and helped reinforce the themes “Honouring Freedom, Inspiring the Future” and “Vande Mataram Har Ghar Tiranga – One Nation, One Flag, One Spirit”.
