Desh Bhagat University celebrated World Environment Day 2026

Date: June 5 at Mandi Gobindgarh.
The event was organized by The Agrim Club, Faculty of Agriculture and Life Sciences, in collaboration with Mission LiFE, MoEFCC, Hara Punjab Khara Samaj, Swachh Bharat Cell, and Unnat Bharat Cell.


Dr. Zora Singh, Chancellor, and Dr. Tajinder Kaur, Pro Chancellor, graced the occasion and encouraged environmental responsibility.


Ms. Anant Jot Kaur, Forest Range Officer, Sirhind, attended as Guest of Honour along with Mr. Narinder Singh and Mr. Nirmal Singh from the Forest Department.


Speakers highlighted the importance of environmental protection, afforestation, biodiversity conservation, and sustainable use of natural resources.
Dr. H. K. Sidhu welcomed the guests and emphasized the role of educational institutions in promoting sustainability.


Dr. Ajay Gupta presented a documentary on water conservation with special reference to the Ganga and Yamuna rivers.
Dr. Avinash showcased the university’s environmental and sustainability initiatives undertaken over the previous fifteen days.
A plantation drive was conducted under the Green Campus Initiative in collaboration with the Forest Department.
Saplings of Curry Leaf (Murraya koenigii), Karanj (Pongamia pinnata), Moringa (Moringa oleifera), and Jamun (Syzygium cumini) were planted across the campus and adopted villages.


Participants took a Green Pledge for Environmental Protection, reaffirming their commitment to sustainable living.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. H. K. Sidhu.

The programme was attended by Chancellor Dr. Zora Singh, Pro Chancellor Dr. Tajinder Kaur, and officials from the Forest Department, who emphasized the importance of environmental conservation, biodiversity protection, and sustainable living. Activities included a documentary presentation on water conservation, a review of the university’s recent sustainability initiatives, and a plantation drive under the Green Campus Initiative. Saplings of several environmentally beneficial tree species were planted across the campus and adopted villages. The celebration concluded with a Green Pledge, reinforcing the university’s commitment to environmental stewardship and ecological awareness among students and the community.
