Desh Bhagat University Fosters Innovation through “EdTech 1.0” – A Two-Day Inter-Institutional Start-Up Competition
The School of Hotel Management & Tourism, Desh Bhagat University, Mandi Gobindgarh, in collaboration with the Institution’s Innovation Council (DBU IIC) and the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), successfully organized a Two-Day Inter-Institutional Start-Up Competition titled “EdTech 1.0”. The event was aimed at nurturing innovation, creativity, and entrepreneurial spirit among students by providing them with a dynamic platform to present their start-up ideas and engage with industry experts.
The competition brought together enthusiastic participants from various institutions who showcased their innovative and technology-driven business ideas. The event served as an excellent opportunity for students to understand the practical aspects of entrepreneurship and gain exposure to the ever-evolving start-up ecosystem.
During the event, students presented their start-up proposals before a panel of judges through detailed Pitch Deck sessions, focusing on business planning, innovation, and scalability. The sessions were highly interactive and informative, allowing participants to refine their ideas with expert feedback.

Day 1 of the competition featured an engaging opening ceremony at APJ Abdul Kalam Hall, led by Mr. Gurkiran Singh Maan, Head of Department, Hospitality, SOHMT, who motivated students to think creatively and pursue their entrepreneurial ambitions.

Day 2 continued with advanced presentations and evaluations under the guidance of Dr. Aman Sharma, Director, School of Hotel Management & Tourism, at the Engineering Conference Hall. Participants showcased immense enthusiasm and innovation, making the competition both inspiring and impactful.
The event was graced by the presence of Hon’ble Chancellor Dr. Zora Singh and Hon’ble Pro-Chancellor Dr. Tajinder Kaur, whose visionary words inspired students to become leaders and innovators in their respective fields.

The two-day competition was organized under the able leadership of Dr. Aman Sharma, Director, School of Hotel Management & Tourism, and coordinated by Dr. Rupinder Kaur, Mr. Gurkiran Singh, Ms. Nivedita, and Ms. Srishti, who ensured smooth execution and meaningful learning outcomes for all participants.
The “EdTech 1.0” Start-Up Competition proved to be an enriching and empowering experience for the students, fostering creativity, innovation, and entrepreneurial thinking. The event reaffirmed Desh Bhagat University’s commitment to promoting experiential learning and equipping students with the skills required to thrive in today’s dynamic and technology-driven world.
