Mandi Gobindgarh, November 11: The NSS Unit of Desh Bhagat University (DBU), Mandi Gobindgarh, in association with Mera Yuva Bharat, Fatehgarh Sahib, organized a Cultural Programme and Pad Yatra@150 Unity March to commemorate the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the Iron Man of India. The event was graced by Dr. Zora Singh, Chancellor of Desh Bhagat University, as the Chief Guest, along with other dignitaries including Dr. Tajinder Kaur, Pro-Chancellor; Dr. Harsh Sadawarti, Vice-Chancellor; Dr. Precious Sheoran, Director, Faculty of Education; Mr. Satish Kumar, Programme Coordinator, NSS DBU; Mr. Kartik Singla, District Youth Officer, Mera Yuva Bharat, Fatehgarh Sahib; SHO Baljinder Singh Kang, Amloh; Mr. Harmandeep Singh from the District Employment Office; and Mr. Karnvir Tohra, BJP Leader, Amloh.

In his address, Dr. Zora Singh paid heartfelt tribute to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, highlighting his historic role in uniting 565 princely states and restoring peace during the partition. He described Patel as the “Iron Man of India” and the “Patron Saint of India’s Civil Services,” citing the Statue of Unity as a global symbol of national pride. Vice-Chancellor Dr. Harsh Sadawarti called the event a movement of nationalism, emphasizing Patel’s values of integrity, impartiality, and dedication to public service. Mr. Kartik Singla termed the initiative a fitting tribute to a national hero who helped shape a united India.

As part of the celebrations, a Tree Plantation Drive was conducted on November 7, 2025, under the leadership of Mr. Satish Kumar, during which 100 saplings—including guava, neem, peepal, and mango trees—were planted within the university campus. An Essay Writing Competition on Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel also saw enthusiastic participation from over 100 students. The programme culminated with cultural performances and the Pad Yatra@150 Unity March, flagged off by Dr. Zora Singh and Dr. Harsh Sadawarti. Around 500 students participated in the march from Desh Bhagat University to Amloh and back, supported by the Amloh Police and a medical assistance team. Mera Yuva Bharat distributed T-shirts and refreshments to all participants, making the event a grand success and a vibrant expression of unity, patriotism, and youth spirit.
