Responsibility:
As part of the NCC community service initiative, cadets from Desh Bhagat University, Mandi Gobindgarh visited Old Age Home Bassi Pathana on 22.11.2024. The visit aimed to bridge the gap between generations, provide emotional support to the elderly, and instill in cadets the values of compassion, empathy, and social responsibility.
There are following activitie performed by DeshBhagat University NCC Cadets.
- Interaction with Residents :Cadets engaged in meaningful conversations with the elderly, listening to their life stories and experiences. Residents shared wisdom and anecdotes that provided valuable insights into their lives.
- Cultural Activities: Cadets organized a small cultural program that included singing, dancing, and poetry recitation.Residents participated enthusiastically, creating a lively and joyful atmosphere.
- Games and Recreational Activities: Indoor games like chess, carrom, and cards were arranged.
- Group activities, such as storytelling sessions, were held to foster interaction.
- Donation Drive: Cadets distributed essential items, including clothes, medicines, toiletries, and food supplies. A health kit containing masks and sanitizers was provided to each resident.
- Cleanliness and Maintenance: A brief SwachhtaAbhiyan was conducted in and around the premises of the old age home to ensure a clean and hygienic environment.
- The 56 National Cadet Corps (NCC) of Desh Bhagat University, Mandi Gobindgarh (Air Wing, Army Wing & Navy Wing ) proudly participated in this activity. This activity conducted with the Permission of Hon’ble Chancellor Sir Dr. Zora Singh & Pro. Chancellor Mam Dr. Tajinder Kaur. This activity is done under the guidance of Vice Prersident – Dr. Harsh Sadawarti & NCC CTOs like Dr. Ajaypal Singh (Army Wing) and Mr. Gurjeet Singh Pandher (Air Wing) All DBU NCC cadet participated with full enthusium.
Conclusion:
The visit to the old age home was a profoundly enriching experience that fostered empathy, compassion, and a deeper understanding of the lives and challenges faced by senior citizens. Interacting with the residents highlighted the importance of emotional support, companionship, and care in their lives. Through meaningful conversations, recreational activities, and shared moments of joy, the visit created a positive impact on both the elderly and the participants. It reinforced the value of respecting and cherishing the wisdom and contributions of the older generation. The experience also served as a reminder of our responsibility to ensure the dignity, well-being, and happiness of the elderly. Such visits are essential not only to address the social and emotional needs of senior citizens but also to instill in the youth the values of compassion and social service. This initiative has encouraged us to organize more such visits in the future to continue building a society where every individual feels valued and cared for.
