Desh Bhagat University hosted the launch of Uth Punjab Sian, the Punjabi translation of A Bureaucrat Recalls by former IAS officer Captain Narinder Singh. The translation was skillfully carried out by Prof. Dharminder Singh, Coordinator of the university’s Centre for Punjabi Language, Folklore, and Culture. Dr. Zora Singh, Chancellor of DBU, hailed the book as a powerful literary tool in Punjab’s battle against drug addiction, aligning it with the government’s “Yudh Nashean Virudh” campaign. The book delves into a wide spectrum of themes—from Partition and the legacy of the Sikh Regiment to Punjab’s contributions in sports, as well as pressing issues like drug abuse, gang violence, migration, and political corruption. Captain Singh shared how his diverse experiences—as a soldier, lawyer, administrator, and athlete—informed the content. Prof. Dharminder Singh noted that the translation was thoughtfully adapted to reflect the lived realities of Punjabi readers, particularly on challenges like synthetic drugs (chitta), corruption, and gang culture. Vice Chancellor Dr. Harsh Sadawarti and Pro-VC Dr. Amarjeet Singh praised the book as a valuable addition to the Ministry of Education’s Translation Mission under the UGC’s Pustak Scheme.
