Workshop on Prototype/ Process design and development

Name of Department: Faculty of Pharmacy
Mode: Online (Virtual)
Coordinator: Dr.Tawqeer Shafi & Ms. Achla Sharma
Date of Activity: 07-04-2025
Time: 10:00 AM onwards
Aim and Objective: The workshop aimed to explore the diverse aspects of prototype and
process design, with emphasis on pharmaceutical engineering, regulatory law, and intellectual
property. It sought to bridge innovation and compliance by guiding participants from concept
to patentable solutions. By integrating design thinking with legal and technical frameworks, it
offered tools for real-world application. The objective was to foster interdisciplinary
collaboration to produce innovations that are scientifically robust and legally secure.

An intellectually enriching and multidimensional workshop titled “Prototype / Process
Design and Development” was conducted in a virtual mode under the joint aegis of the
Placebo Club, School of Pharmacy, S. Lal Singh Memorial College of Pharmacy, and Mata
Jarnail K
College of Pharmacy, Desh Bhagat University, in strategic collaboration with the
Institution Innovation Council (IIC). The event attracted widespread participation from
students, research scholars, and faculty members across disciplines, making it a truly holistic
academic engagement.

The workshop featured two eminent speakers who brought immense value and depth to the
session. Dr. Inderjeet Singh, Senior Research Fellow at the Department of Renewable
Energy Engineering, Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, shared profound insights into
the technological frameworks involved in process design and prototype fabrication, drawing
upon his rich research background and over 20 publications in internationally recognized
SCI/Scopus-indexed journals. Complementing this was Dr. Divya Khurana, Associate
Professor at the University School of Law, Desh Bhagat University, who offered a powerful

legal perspective on innovation focusing on patent law, regulatory compliance, and the role of
intellectual property rights in safeguarding scientific advancements.
What set this workshop apart was its rare yet highly effective confluence of technical rigor
and legal acumen. The live Q&A session evolved into an impromptu think tank, where
complex real-world scenarios were explored through both engineering and jurisprudential
lenses. It was this integrative approach that sparked high-level discourse and deep reflection
among attendees.
The event was masterfully orchestrated by the event in-charges, Dr. Tawqeer Shafi (Assistant
Professor) and Ms. Achla Sharma (Assistant Professor), whose poised anchoring brought
elegance and energy to the session. A special note of gratitude goes to our esteemed
Principal, Dr. Puja Gulati, School of Pharmacy, whose steadfast support, strategic vision, and
insightful participation during the interactive discussions significantly enriched the academic
depth and smooth execution of the program. We also extend heartfelt appreciation to Dr.
Shailesh Kumar Gupta, Principal, S. Lal Singh Memorial College of Pharmacy, and Ms.
Khushpal, Principal, Mata Jarnail Kaur College of Pharmacy, for their gracious presence and
encouragement, which added prestige to the occasion and reflected a shared commitment to
academic excellence.
The workshop did not merely serve as an academic exercise it emerged as a confluence of
innovation, strategy, and policy. It left the participants equipped not only with enhanced
technical knowledge but also with a clearer understanding of how to navigate the legal and
procedural pathways required to bring pharmaceutical innovations to life. As a result, the
workshop stands as a benchmark for future interdisciplinary educational initiatives, marking a
progressive step toward innovation-led, legally informed scientific education.
