The term ‘Kaya’ refers to human body and to the ‘digestive fire’, present in our digestive system. As per the recommendations of kaya chikitsa most of the diseases are caused due to the disproportion of this digestive fire and discrepancy in the amicability of tridosas- vata, pitta and kapha in the body. Kaya chikitsa is concerned with the provision of some procedures to create harmony between these three dosas. Kaya chikitsa also encompasses the application of various prescriptions, medications and therapies to enhance the appropriate functioning of the main organs of human body. Being based on natural therapies and herbs Kaya chikitsa shows no negative symptoms and side effects on the patient. Thus, Kaya chikitsa concentrates on the analysis, preclusion and cure of various diseases like joint pain, skin problems, diabetes and numerous others.
M.D. Ayurveda Kayachikitsa at Desh Bhagat University is an elaborate study of the methodologies in Samhita i.e. the ancient ayurvedic texts- their meaning, inference, application, critical analysis and siddhanta i.e. the basic principles that apply. The students of M.D. Ayurveda Kayachikitsa alongside Samhita also study physiology, anatomy having a profound knowledge of materials used in medication, pharmacology, pharmaceutical science, toxicology, forensic medicine, preventive, social medicine and yoga, pathology, diagnostic procedure, imaging and radio diagnosis, general medicine, psychiatry, rejuvenation, aphrodisia, five therapeutic procedure, gynaecology, obstetrics, pediatrics, general surgery, para surgical procedure including minimal invasive surgery, orthopaedics and management of vital points, anesthesiology, ophthalmology, dentistry and oral disease, ENT & head & neck disease.
As per various methods prescribed by Kaya chikitsa, DBU has empowered the curriculum of M.D. Ayurveda Kayachikitsa and the practical amenities of the department accordingly. A 150 bedded Ayurveda hospital along with Panchakarma centre has also been established in this regard to enrich the students with the actual therapies followed in Panchkarma; a standout amongst the most imperative treatment strategy applied in Kaya chikitsa. All the various herbs and therapies’ facilities have been availed and updated periodically as per the varying requirements.

MD Ayurveda Rasa Shastra
Being one of the most prominent branches of Ayurveda, Rasa Shastra is a part of pharmacy that basically deals with the detoxification, processing and preparation of Ayurvedic medicines with the use of various chemical substances, metals, minerals and herbs. So, this pioneer branch of Ayurveda is mainly concerned with the varieties, attributes, handling strategies, properties, formulation and preservation of Ayurvedic medicines. The stream also ingrains the students with the capability to transmute a harmful or poisonous medication into a safe and powerful drug. Thus, M.D. in Rasa Shastra gives a remarkable accentuation to the stimulating learning of Ayurvedic medicines along with the descriptions of various devices and heating apparatus.
M.D. Rasashastra course is a great opportunity for aspiring students to expand their knowledge through a detailed study of the fundamental principles of Rasa Shastra, Aushadha Yoga (formulations), methods of analytical, toxicity, experimental and clinical validation of classical and proprietary ayurvedic formulations. M.D. Ras Shastra also introduces new dosage forms and advance instruments of analysis. The course also entails a thorough understanding of Concept of Pharmacopoeia and Formulary with introduction of ‘The Ayurvedic Pharmacopoeia of India’ (API) and ‘The Ayurvedic Formulary of India’ (AFI) and an introduction to databases of medicinal plants published by CCRAS, ICMR and others. The practical education in the course, M.D. Rasa Shastra, involves mineralogical identification of minerals & metals and macroscopic & microscopic examination of plants. The course gives a very profound knowledge of pharmacopeia standards of traditional medicines of ancient India and a thorough understanding of prepared dosage forms Bhasma and Pishti Pariksha and their delivery in various forms.
