The National Innovation and Startup Policy 2019 for students and faculty of Higher

Desh Bhagat University
Education Institutions (HEIs) will enable the institutes to actively engage students, faculties and staff in innovation and entrepreneurship related activities. This framework will also facilitate Ministry of Human Resource Development in bringing uniformity across HEIs in terms of Intellectual Property ownership management, technology licensing and institutional Startup policy, thus enabling creation of a robust innovation and Start up ecosystem across all HEIs. Uniform and successful implementation of the ‘National Innovation and Startup Policy 2019’ for students and faculty of all the HEIs across the nation is the main objective. The roadmap suggested through the NISP document is ‘broad guidelines’ given below

IEDC Livelihood Incubato

IEDC Livelihood Incubator has established Women Business Park for Empowerment of Rural Women, which is a project funded by Department of Science & Technology. Govt. of India. Project undertakes Eco-Friendly Innovations in which we provide trainings to womens in selected villages on manufacturing ecofriendly Sanitary Napkins, computerized design of Phulkari (folk embroidery of Punjab) and eco-friendly party plates to earn their livelihood for economical independence.

Objectives

  • To improve livelihood activities for rural unemployed Women
  • To develop entrepreneurial skills through training & capacity builds
  • Provide technology solutions for local specific problems to promote Sustainable Development.
  • Use of Local resources

Under DST project through Livelihood Incubator, Rural women are given training to develop skills in operating and managing skills for making sanitary napkins. They were given training on the procedure of making and packaging of the product.

Awareness talk visits were arranged in the villages for motivating rural women to become entrepreneurs and independent. They were made aware about various opportunities that are available and the procedure through which they can avail them.

Webinar on “Let’s celebrate Entrepreneurship” 30th July 2020

IEDC organized a workshop webinar on Let’s celebrate Entrepreneurship that was focused on startup study cases, idea generation to idea communication, advertising, funding and promotion of startups. Resource person were Dr. k s Bhatia CEO Pumpkart, Mr. Jiwandeep Singh Ghai founder Santabanta.com, Mr. Ashish Khare founder Mentorkart, Co. Rajeev Bhargava, Associate Director Indian School of Business. The session was open for entire university students irrespective of stream. The session was interactive and knowledgeable.

Kisan Mela conducted on 5 th March 2020 for Agriculture Entrepreneurs

IEDC and Agriculture department conducted Kisan Mela. Deputy Commissioner Fatehgarh Sahib was the guest of honour. Progressive farmers were invited to share their knowledge about organic farming. Farmers from the nearby villages attended the mela. Various stalls of organic products were displayed. There was a cultural programme that everybody enjoyed.

Progressive Farmer Meet for Agriculture Entrepreneurs 17 January 2020

Agri & Food Incubator, Innovation & Entrepreneurship Development Campus (IEDC), Desh Bhagat University is organizing Progressive Farmers Meet on 17 Jan 2020 having theme of “Promoting Sustainable Agriculture for Unnat Bharat”. The purpose of the meet is to provide a common platform to the farmers and progressive farmers to share their journey of progress in the field of sustainable Agriculture and motivate all farmers for the same. Farmers from nearby villages attended the meet and felt it useful for them.

Seminar on Copyright management In Academic Institutions 2019

During session second, Dr. Ashwani Siwal (Department of Law, University of Delhi) informed about Copyright Management in Academic Institutions in detail and provided information on latest Rulings of the Court on the subject. Ms. Divya Kaushik, (Scientist PIC) talked about the Role of PIC, PSCST and Services offered. The Experts interacted with the students and shared their experiences. Vice Chancellor Dr. Virinder Singh proposed vote of thanks and appreciated the learned speaker for their valuable thoughts and suggestions.

Ms. Wilmke Offereins, Netherlands, 2019

October, IEDC had Ms Wilmke Offereins from Netherlands on Campus. Ms Wilmke was with us as an expert in establishing and growing functional incubators. She is a well-travelled, have had her own company for 25 years which she ran successfully. before the travel bug bit her. A major in Business Administration from Bradford School of Management, for the last two years, she has been travelling across the Continents of Asia and Africa, visiting countries and guiding the SMEs how to streamline their operations for stability and sustainability. Ms Wilmke spoke to the students on campus about ventures and business, how to have a plan and pitch and how to take it further. Her expertise includes building a strong team of people, figuring out the challenges and opportunities, helping the aspirants make business or project plan and implement and execute the same. Also, she trains the coaches to be more effective by being respectful, responsible and sustainable. Evaluation as we progress and agility to improvise and accommodate, changes are also equally needed and hence recommended.

Celebrating the Spirit of Entrepreneurship “Spark 03” 2019

Entrepreneurs are the new role models of the modern times. They not only fill in the gaps in the existent products and services but also come out with new progressive patterns. Cultivating and supporting this entrepreneurial spirit, Desh Bhagat University hosted its annual youth festival – ‘Spark-3, Celebrating Entrepreneurship and culture’. More than 200 students participated in the festival putting up their stalls selling and displaying their items under different tracks, which included Tech Pavilion, Food Pavilion, Fun Pavilion, Fashion Pavilion, Handicrafts Pavilion.

With a focus on encouraging and boosting entrepreneurial mindsets and giving the right exposure and experiences to the students, a mixed team of 25 students went to the Cannable event hosted by Chandigarh Angels’ Network. The event was a get together of Angel Investors, startup owners, entrepreneurs and students. Formatted on the lines of panels, discussions, pitch-in sessions and business plans, the event gave almost everything that can offer stir and guide the thought process of the young entrepreneurial aspirants. Also, there were business owners who shared what exactly they look for in an entrepreneur while deciding to put in their money in the plan. On the quintessential- most of them had some common elements like –passion, perseverance and agility.

A session on Empathetic Leadership by Ms Riya Biswas, Youth Alliance, New Delhi, 2019

The students had a session on Empathetic Leadership delivered by Ms Riya Biswas, Youth Alliance, New Delhi. Youth Alliance works to bring about inner changes in psyche and thought process of the youth, it all being directed and aimed towards a more cordial, effective human ecosystem, paving way for a more cooperative and sustainable society. IEDC has been host to many such interactive sessions wherein the students are given a chance to speak about themselves and on themes and issues of the times. Not only they come out of their cocooned worlds, but open up, exchange and develop new perspectives, which widens their horizons and makes them more expressive, empathetic and tolerant towards views that are different from theirs. There have been instances when students have admitted how such interactive sessions have helped them bring out a better version of themselves. And that keeps us going.

Seminar on Remembrance of Jaliawala Bagh, 4 Oct 2019

Department of Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Development Des Bhagat University organized a seminar where faculty and students sit together to remember the martyrs of Jalianwala Bagh Mascare and their role in Indian Freedom. Students were shown some clips of Jalianwala Bagh and story behind it. By sharing views and events related to Jalianwala Bagh audience get to know about the glory or their freedom fighters that scarifies their lives for our freedom.

Patent Awareness Workshop 2018

Desh Bhagat University’s Patent Information Centre organized a workshop on Patent Awareness. The chief Guest on this occasion was Mr. Vinod Vashist (President, All India Steel Rolling Association) shared his views on Copyright, Challenges for entrepreneurs in the changed knowledge regime. The event was graced by Industrialists from Ludhiana, Mandi Gobindgarh, Amargarh, Amloh, Rajpura and Experts from TIFAC DST Govt of India, students and staff members from Faculty of Engineering and other faculties as well who participated in it. The event was inaugurated by the university Chancellor Dr. Zora Singh. He said that objective of the event is to teach our students about the various facets of intellectual property, like patents, trademarks, industrial designs, copyright etc. which play a major role in encouraging innovation and creativity.

Patent Awareness Workshop 2018

Mr. B S Sooch, Registered Patent Agent spoke on Patenting System of India.​ Ms. Sanjeeta Das, Patent Attorney from a leading IPR firm spoke on Trademarks and Design Registration. The keynote speaker of first session was Mrs. Sangeeta Nagar, (Scientist E TIFAC, Dept. of Science & Technology, Govt. of India). She talked about the Development of Intellectual Property Rights system in India. She said each and every new invention needs copyright and patent protection and we have to be aware about it.

The Seminar on Intellectual Property Rights by ASSOCHAM, 2017

Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development Campus organised a seminar Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) in association with Assocham. The experts included IPR Scientist Dr. Rahul Taneja and Nahid Alam, Deputy Director, ASSOCHAM. The event addressed the various IPR related issues which would be relevant to the students as they progress in their career, shaping up their ideas into research, products and services. The deliberations closed out with an MoU between the two Institutions wherein Assocham would train the students in the finer aspects of IPR. Dr. Zora Singh, Honourable Chancellor of the University, appreciated the efforts of the experts and thanked them for their efforts, considering the growing importance of IPR and the professional conflicts arising on the front. Media reports have been very often full of patent infringements.

Innovation Entreprenureship Development Centre Established 2017

Desh Bhagat University has carved out a niche for itself by establishing an Innovation Entrepreneurship Development Center (IEDC) for the bright future of its students. University Chancellor Dr. Zora Singh presided over the function asserted that we want to make our students future ready and this initiative will provide them firsthand knowledge, training and proper guidance to become an entrepreneurs. The EDP Cell has especially drafted several program to guide and trained them how to face with difficulties and pressure. Dr. Dinesh Dua, CXO, Nectar Life sciences Ltd. was the chief guest on this occasion. He also shared his life experiences with the students. Mr. Vijay Kumar, Director MSME, Development Institute, Ludhiana graced the occasion as guest of honour. While addressing the students he gave details about financial assistance being provided by MSME to micro and small industries of the country and fresh entrepreneurs’ as well. Prof. Paul Douglas gave information about Equity Score (A USA based Company) app development Programme which the university has already started under Make in India programme. The guests also visited Student Entrepreneur Gallery, Equity Score Lab and EDP lab of the university situated in different departments.
